Description
Heavy Peated Malt 1 lb
Origin : Bairds UK
2 - 3°L
This malt is heavily peated and used to enhance flavor in Scottish type ales. While the malt is in the kiln, peat moss outside the kiln is gently smoked over slow burning coals allowing its vapors to drift through the malt. Peated malt is also used in the making of some of Scotland's finest Scotch.
A robust smoky malt often used in Scottish and wee heavy ales, sometimes added to stouts and porters. Due to the strong smoky character of this grain, only a small amount is used in a recipe - one to two ounces for a 5 gallon batch. We recommend no more than 1.5% of the total grain bill at the maximum. To extend shelf life, this grain is shipped uncrushed (unless you specify to crack it when finalizing your order). You can easily use a rolling pin to crush the small amount you'll need for your batch. If you really want it all crushed, please check the box below.
All homebrew grains are sold by the pound. You also have the ability to add tenths of pound amounts.
